I must have been in a coma, because I still haven't found any place where I can download HipHop for PHP. All the websites on the subject I visit just provide a TXT file that tells me it will be available on the next fews days. A few days have passed, and I don't see any changes. Am I looking in the wrong place? Can you point me the place where to download HipHop for PHP?

You are quite right. HipHop is a response to Facebook's specific situation.

In the same vein, one cannot extrapolate Google's filesystem preferences to your own situation. Google and Facebook are extreme outliers and their needs and priorities are almost certainly not your needs and priorities.

The 100 number came from a cost standpoint, CPU bottlenecks can be caused by many things, i'm willing to bet that on a “farm” of 4 nodes, HipHop should not be the first attempt to reduce load, it'll reduce load initially but they'll go back up to 4 nodes, with a minor increase in traffic.

From what Haiping said, HipHop is a stand alone webserver. You can use apache, lighthttpd or nginx to proxy pass to the HipHop webserver.

Where did you come up with the “> 100 servers” number? No one, aside from a few select core developers, has even seen this technology in detail. I would think that this could be beneficial to anyone who has determined CPU is their bottleneck regardless of the number of servers they have.

Most people won't even try to us it. AFAIK Hiphop doesn't work with Apache or Lighttpd at this point …
